Nasira gave her a toothy grin. "Here we go," she leaned forward on her seat, watching the ship power up with defenses against the destroyer. Her ears flicked with anxiety and anticipation. She had boosted the defense systems as much as she could, now all there was to do was hope.

As the Solarian destroyer came within range the forward gunnery welts all fired at once, mazer beams combining for a geometric boost in damage output. smaller ships caught in the path of the deadly volley simply disappeared as they were atomized on impact. The mazer ray lanced across the void to strike the destroyer full on and amid erupting fireballs whole sections of the ship went black... but the destroyer was still there. Force shielding had shunted aside a great deal of the damage.
The Rhinocerous thundered and rocked as smaller enemy craft strafed the ark ship and fought with Harbinger fighters. Three armored craft de-cloaked within close range of the Rhino. A pulse went off and the ships passed through the Rhino's force barrier, attaching themselves to the hull. They began to cut through it to offload soldiers into the Harbinger ark-ship. Lazer bays on the destroyer lit with bright fire as multiple beams lanced out, disintegrating six Harbinger fighters. Bridge tactical data showed the destroyers torpedoes coming online.
It was time for the Harbingers to give all they had in defense of the realm.

Kalle was watching all of this on screen and reporting it to Nasira to keep her updated. She'd hardly need to be informed when the Rhino's weapons were ready to fire but she gave her an idea what they were firing at.
Shadow saw the heat circles showing up in the metal of the ship as the smaller craft cut a large enough hole to let their soldiers in. She pulled her knives, drawing the shadows around her so she remained unseen, drifting closer and crouching.

And seeing how easily the enemy had cut through the Rhino's defenses, multiple walls, into the ship itself, made evident what new upgrades were badly needed for the ship. A short cylinder of melted bulkhead hit the floor heavily. Then a noise, the scuffle of boots echoing off metal. An object suddenly comes sailing out of the hole, bounces a few times and rolls into the corridor... BEEP BEEP BOOM!
A painfully bright flash of light bursts in your vision, the accompanying sonic blast temporarily deafening. You reel as the pressure in your inner ear causes your balance to fail. Ten armored soldiers spill into the corridor, armed to the teeth. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________
"Gunnery, give me an ETA on full charge up." "Sir, the forward cannons won't be ready for another five minutes." "Hostiles on route to the bridge sir, from deck 37 lift. Two more groups in Engineering and CityWide." "Gunnery, I want you to execute attack maneuver Theta when guns are up. Give 'em hell!" Deiter cracked his big knuckles. to the Elite security personnel standing watch at the bridge entrance he said with a growl, " You two come with me. We're going to end this now." His allies snapped to attention, "Sir!"

Through deft use of magnetic mines and complicated flight maneuvers Lucent had managed to eliminate several squadrons of fighter while sustaining only minimal damage to his craft. Just now, he was in a clear spot, so he sped on a course toward the destroyer's engines. If he could take them out with a few well placed EMP missiles the destroyer would be a sitting duck. But fat had a different plan. An exploding fighter sent shrapnel careening into his path. Something burst into flame and he was sent spinning wildly out of control. Warnings alerted him that he had an oxygen leak. Lucent had to act fast or he would be leading the ranks of the dead!

Shadow was already rolling when the cylinder rolled in, covering her head as she crouched against a corner. Even so, she reeled from the light and impact, unable to get up for a few moments though she remained hidden.
By the time she had recovered sufficiently enough, the soldiers had moved off down the corridor. She could hear them. On a happier note, though, they had also split up into a few groups....and she was behind them.
She moved silently, automatically veering away from the largest group that held the leader. He could be dealt with later. She came up behind a group of two that had separated far enough they were out of sight of their compatriots.
One of them paused as he heard something hit the wall off to the side. His companion brought one of his guns up and shook his head. "Just a piece of rubble..."
The only answer he received as a gurgle of pain. His friend was standing with his back arched, groping blindly behind him at his back in an attempt to pull out something that wasn't there. Blood seeped through a weak point in his armor where it was light in order to allow him to move. His companion brought his gun up but there was nothing to shoot. Shadow brought her knife up, energy flaring around it as she pressed a button in the hilt, as her victim attempted to strike at her. In one smooth movement, she drove the blade deep into his throat.

The energy blade sizzled right through flesh like a hot knife through butter. The soldier crumpled as his cauterized head-halves fell apart. A shot exploded the wall next to her as another squadron of men poured out of the invasion tunnel. A flamethrower unit came into the room making it nigh impossible to advance into the corridor. __________________________________________________________
Upships, Deiter and the two Elites entered the large galleria where the lift opened onto the bridge deck.
"Listen up! Get in triangle formation, using pillars for cover. Flank your enemies and cover me."
"What will you do, sir?"
"Don't worry about me. I'm the bait, and I like it that way!"
The lift doors opened, disengorging an absolute horde of guys who rushed out who spread out immediately and loosed volleys of laser fire at Deiter... who, with a swipe of his backhand, swatted all of them back at the invaders. Some went down, injured, but then Deiter's clothes burst apart as he transformed into a hulking werebear.
The personal shield he had used fizzled and broke. A fearful cry went up from the horde as Deiter waded in, sweeping great claws and hewing men into bits, armor and all. The two Elites picked off back attackers, supporting each other if enemies got too close.
A flamethrower unit turned up the heat, catching Felnagelder the werebear in a burning cone. But the mankiller was deep in a rage and leapt forward to swat at it. BOOM!
A searing explosion as the flamer's tank ruptured, engulfing the bear-beast in fire. Felna rorared angrily, hurt.

Kalle yelled as a small squadron burst into the main battery and sealed Nasira in so it would at least give her some time before they tried and interrupted. The horned woman leaned back in the doorway and opened fire, snarling.
Shadow faded again as Deiter appeared. While their attention was on the main force, Shadow started flanking anyone who turned his back for more than two seconds, viciously attacking out of nowhere, picking them off one by one in short, savage attacks from the side.

Nasira was startled when the enemy squadron broke into the main battery and before she could react Kalle had sealed her inside the small room. She powered up her weapon and trained it at the door, steeling herself if the squadron was to break in.
She acted quickly, powering off the computers and monitoring systems so that if they did break in they could not use the monitors and indicators of the defense systems to their advantage. She placed a hand over the bandage on her arm, sure that the chip was safe... over her dead body.
