Excited chatter full of extremely complicated words echoed up into the pilot's seat from behind. This was a good opportunity for some of her brighter assistants, so Celeste made her rounds, letting them handle the set up of equipment and starting the tests.
She made it a point while they were at work to head to the pilot's area and ask Jacobs if he needed anything. She smirked. "I know these are the most boring of trips for the the pilot."

He perked up a bit as she entered the cockpit, he gave a small laugh, "Just doing my job." He let go of the controls a moment and half-way turned to face her, "So aren't you excited about this at all? This planet could be the first in history to already have established life, plant or otherwise, and you're right on the front lines. Surely that is something people in your field dream about." He laughed again, "While the high-point of my career is driving you about."

By now, Aya's assistants were reviewing the current mineral samples and cataloging them, mundane checks she wasn't particularly interested in. She would swing by to check on their progress. She, however, was looking forward to getting her hands on more physical samples. That is, setting down on the green planet the Godspeed was currently in orbit with. She nicknamed it Genesis, for it's vivid green color and the importance of the mission. The possibilities that this planet had for the research team sent bubbles of anticipation in her stomach. Before heading down to the lab, Aya took a detour and sat down at a terminal. She swiped her identification card, entered in an access code, and voice verified. The terminal chirruped in response. She pulled up the crew manifest to review the members of her team, to see if she saw any familiar names. There were a few from her last planetwide mission, but many names she did not know. The terminal made another chirrup as Dr. Celeste's entry popped up on the left half of the screen. She tapped on the window and enlarged it, reading of the team she was building for the planet mission. Exactly what Aya was waiting to see. She put her name on the manifest and one of the mineral researches she trusted to do her proud.

She was quiet for a moment, looking thoughtful. "I am excited, but I've kind of learned to temper it over the years. At least until some tests are done and we know a bit more. After all, it could be poisonous established life. Or at least...unwelcoming..."

That done, Aya made her way to the science wing. Duty needed to be done. She entered the reasearch faciltity and passed row after row of labs. Each lab was housed in clear glass, and one could see researcher and assistant alike buzzing with their activities. She stopped before the mineral lab and entered in her keycard beside the door. The terminal chirrped in response and the door hissed opened, air streaming as the controlled environment was broken for a moment. The door sealed behind her and she went to grab her lab coat and gloves. She emerged after several minutes at her locker and went to see to her research team. She bent over them, murmuring with them about the current activities.

"No more romanticism for you, eh? I know exactly how that feels.." He motioned very subtly to his ocular augments and turned back to face the controls. "So I'm curious.. where do you come from?"

After spending several hours with preliminary duties, she retreated to a corner with some of the more previous samples. Aya turned to a side table and picked up several implements, instruments, to test the mineral samples for certain chemical reactions. One of the goals of the research teams were to find specific elements that would benefit the Godspeed's benefactors, whether it be wealth, to advance technologies, or even prove beneficial to advancing life. But these the results of these samples were proving frustrating. Even more of a headache was the fact that the bigwhigs funding this mission would be breathing down her neck if something big wasn't found soon. "Please don't let me down," she said quietly as she set the samples down, looking out to space at the lovely green planet down below.

"Yea...the whole 'exciting exploring space' expectation can really bite you in the ass." She rubbed a scar on her upper left arm absently as she spoke. Celeste blinked at him, dragging herself back to the present. "I'm actually not from anywhere, strictly speaking. I was born on earth but my parents moved from ship to ship."
There was a buzzing sound on one of the screens near Aya and Jinx's voice suddenly echoed from the speakers. "Officer Hiroshima, I did the upgrades to your database, you should be able to store all your findings more efficiently now."

"Thank you Jinx," Aya grinned, her smile touched her eyes. "That should benefit the timlieness of my reports."

"For your sake I hope they don't." He laughed at his own rude joke. Chief Burke burst into the lab, flashing his badge at the scientists who gave him a look. "Ms. Hiroshima, you have to come with me, there's a few questions that the company would like to ask you." He stood in the doorway and extended his arm, insisting she proceed him.

"So you're gonna join Dr. Metria's group going down to the planet, huh? She made a note in the files specifically to ask you, not surprising since you're head of the whole mineral shebang. You think there's aliens down there?" She sounded excited at the prospect.
She fell silent when the security chief entered, narrowing her eyes though of course he couldn't see that.

"Another spacer, huh?" He laughed a bit, "You know what they say.. do you feel you have suffered by not growing up on a planet?" "Grew up on the Titan colony myself.. good ol' colony life. I imagine you didn't see much of Earth.. do you think you'd ever go back?"

She laughed. "Yeah, and I'm looking forward to it too. Hmm... aliens? I don't know about that. But it will be an interesting trip, to say the least." Aya was startled by the Chief's sudden entry and dropped a sample, the glass casing shattered as it hit the floor and the perfectly cemetrical core shattered into several pieces, grains scattering all over the place. Aya looked over to the nearest researcher. "Clean this up, won't you. I guess I've been summoned." Something in her stomach spelled forboding. "Of course," she nodded to the security chief. She didn't even take off her lab coat or gloves, but walked out of the lab, followed by the Chief. "Just what is all of this about?" She was frazzled. That was an important sample she had just dropped. She groaned inwardly.

"Suffered? No...no, I don't think so. Maybe...probably...it's a factor in why I find it hard to settle in one place for a long time, though." She smiled a bit. "Actually I got my doctorate on Earth. You know it's kind of hard to study plants properly if you don't have a place to grow them. I go back for visits once in a while. I've never been to Titan, heard a lot about it, though." She had a feeling she now knew how he'd gotten the cybernetics for his eyes but bringing up the Saturn Rebellions was never a good idea in polite company, plus she seriously doubted that was a subject he wanted to talk about.
Jinx kept half an ear on Aya and the security chief, quite curious.

He produced a fake smile, "Just consider it a background check." He directed her down a few corridors then into a secure room with a small table and two chairs. He motioned to the far chair, "Have a seat." He walked to a control panel on the wall and dialed a few things in, a grid of lights appeared on the walls and the lights seemed to penetrate through them. They were recording everything about her, her facial expressions and mental readings being the chief figures. Finally he took the seat across from her, "I'm sure you already have an idea of what this is about, and I'm sure you'd like to leave this in the past but it does raise some questions." He slid a picture of a satellite imaged compound over to her, the flag of the Saturnum Confederation could be faintly made out. "In the year 2388 you fought as a guerrilla in the Saturn insurgency, is that correct?" He noted her expression, "Don't ask me how I know."
