Sinjun did her best to keep her company but she knew she couldn't take the place of her mate and son, both of whom were often drawn away because of their duties. Sinjun moved to put the herbs Yiska hadn't needed for his pack on the hanging string at the back flap of the tent to dry them, tying them carefully. She wondered if the golems were the reason the Moraji had been called to the council but she knew better than to ask. She'd find out soon enough, from Yiska if not from Moraji himself.

Yiska busied himself by putting the jars of medicine in the wooden cabinet. Some of them were pungent smelling and made his nose twitch. Others smelled sweet and pleasant. A little cub may dig into something he or she shouldn't so they kept it well shut from children's fingers.
Moraji looked tired when he entered the tent. They allowed him to settle down and get something in his stomach before they brought up the golems.
"It is as I feared," Moraji shook his head. "Word has come that these creatures and their keepers are roaming the desert. But we don't know much about them. It is well that they are not coming towards the Yitoki, but I can't say the same for neighboring tribes."
"Sinjun can tell you something of golems," Yiska nodded.

"Hahji pointed in the direction of the deep desert, he doesn't think they're moving towards any neighboring tribes," Sinjun added. She nodded, looking up at Moraji. "Keep in mind the golems aren't like people or even animals. They don't have wills or minds of their own. They'll react if provoked but otherwise they won't do anything unless ordered to."

"It has been suggested that we track the humans and learn their intent." Moraji nodded to Sinjun. "I believe it is in our best interest two send two of our seasoned trackers. They will miss the great hunt, but we also need assurance that our youth will not be in danger."

Sinjun hesitated for a moment, fidgeting, finally speaking quietly: "I could go with them. I might be able to help identify the golems and their masters. Also....whatever it is they're looking for."

Yiska's eyes darted to Sinjun. "Not without me," he said quickly. Moraji held up his hand to Yiska.
"Out of the question, Yiska. You are needed for ceremony here beside the shaman to bless the Great Hunt. You will not risk your own life on this venture... No, son. This is my last word on the matter."
"Sinjun, if you feel up to the task you have my blessing."

"Thank you, Moraji, I'm honored by your trust in me," she said quietly, shooting Yiska an apologetic look. She would have preferred having him with her as well but she understood Moraji's reasons for not wanting him to go.

Yiska looked sad... and worried. He would not contest his father's wishes, and his disappointment showed clearly on his face. Still, Moraji would not be moved.
"Hoti and Teru will join you Sinjun, but we must prepare. You three will leave in the morning. Take whatever you need, please. Tahki will put together food good for traveling."
Yiska remained quiet, color had risen to his cheeks.

When she had a chance, she edged over to Yiska, worried despite herself. "Yiska?"

Moraji had finished his meal and went to bed early, exhausted from long meetings with the council. After Tahki put together food for Sinjun and enough to share with Hoti and Teru, as long as they rationed frugally, she joined her husband in bed, casting worried glances at the two of them before drawing shut the divider that allowed some privacy from the main area.
"Hoti and Teru will take good care of you," he smiled weakly. "I'm sorry I won't be able to come with you, I wish I could, but I must obey my father for his word is as good as the councils. Plus, what he says is truth, my duty is here."

"They can't risk you," Sinjun agreed, giving his shoulder a light squeeze. "Don't worry, Yiska, we probably won't run to any trouble. Hoti and Teru are good, they can find out plenty without getting too close."

"We can't risk you either," he frowned lightly. "Promise me that you will stay back. Don't let them see you. I want you to come home in one piece."

Silently, Sinjun thought that they weren't risking much to the tribe sending her out. They wouldn't like her dying but the tribe wouldn't be as harmed from her death as it would from Yiska's. Harsh, but it had the advantage of being true. She knew better than to say that aloud to Yiska. She truly didn't believe there was much risk anyway. "I promise."

A smile spread across his face and he suddenly moved forward to give her a hug. He closed his eyes and rested his cheek on her shoulder for a moment. Be safe...
He presently withdrew. "You should get some sleep. Hoti and Teru will rise very early, most likely before sunrise. Mother will want to prepare food. She will be careful not to disturb your sleep."
Yiska bedded himself down quickly, pulling a woven blanket over his body after removing his talismans and pouches. He lay awake for some time though, breathing regularly so Sinjun thought he was sleeping as he had his eyes closed.
Too soon did the time to wake come for the Moraji clan. Mother was bleary eyed but working quickly to prepare foodstuffs that would keep for their travels. Yiska had finally fallen asleep a few hours before and was dead to the world for now. His father had left the tent as well to talk to Hoti and Teru.
The smoke that rose in the dawning sky was thin, old coals had not yet stirred for breakfast fires and most of the camp was still asleep.

Sinjun curled her arms around him and hugged him back, closing her eyes. She nodded and watched him as he went to bed before slipping onto her own sleeping mat. She didn't expect sleep to come to her early but it did, so she was well rested early on. She got up not long after Tahki did and moved to help her. Part of her was cautious, of course, but there was a part of her that relished the task ahead. It was an adventure, after all.
