He rolled his eyes at that look. He busied himself setting the tack on the horses and attaching the leads to the wagon. The morning tasks were done in half the time today and they were on their way with out a hitch.
Not too long now, he thought to himself. Then he could wash his hands of the girl and the mercenaries, namely Markus. He was considering only accepting solo jobs from now on. Overseeing a group of men was proving a pain in the ass.

Emeric looked thoughtful as they moved along, no doubt wondering about the encounter with the fey woman last night. Indeed as they moved through the woods there now seemed to be the sense of someone watching them

Vladik sensed something was wrong, like someone was trailing them. It wasn't the wolves, he would have heard them. No, it was something else. Looking at the treeline here and there, he tilted his head towards Emeric and spoke lowly. "We have company. They don't want to be seen, but they're there."

"I know..." Emeric murmured. "I don't think they're readying to attack either, which is even more disturbing. And Rauni has gone very quiet..."

He glanced behind him at the wagon. "I noticed." He had a great sense of forboding as he looked from the wagon to back across the treeline. "I believe this is a good time to halt the men. I'd feel better if I got a good look around."

Emeric nodded and called for a halt. He went to check on Rauni.
Vladik wouldn't find anything out of the ordinary as he searched but as he turned to go back to the wagon and the rest of the group he'd find a creature blocking his path, watching him. It looked like a wolfhound at first glance but it's eyes were moonlit and it's fur seemed to drift around it like mist. It cocked its head, those luminous eyes studying him with strange intelligence.

He froze when he saw the creature, lifting his hands a little to show he was unarmed. He was slightly speechless. He hadn't seen a creature such as this before. By the looks of it, the beast was magic. He lowered himself to a squat in order to be less intimidating. "Are you the one who has been watching us?" He inclined his head towards the road where the rest of the men were waiting.

The hound merely cocked his head at him, as if curious.

A small smile spread across his face. Silence didn't necessarily mean it couldn't understand him, but perhaps it couldn't speak. What was he to do? Simply walk away? It didn't seem right, he didn't know what this creature was let alone if it meant harm to anyone.

The hound stirred and disappeared in an instant, fading into the soft mist that seemed to have surrounded them without anyone noticing. It was already fading now that the hound was gone.

He knit his brow at the creature's disappearance. What a strange encounter. He got to his feet and emerged from the forest, walking back to Emeric. He decided not to tell Emeric about what he had seen. Not yet, anyway...
"The forest is clear."

Emeric nodded. As they got moving again, he kept glancing back at the wagon, troubled. As they moved, Rauni was no longer silent, she was clearly pacing back and forth inside.

"Is anything wrong?" He looked from Emeric, to the wagon, and back again.

"I don't know, she won't talk to me." He shrugged, frowning

"Perhaps she'll warm up later," he nodded a little. "She seemed all right last night."
