He bent to the side and kissed the top of her head softly.

You always smell like winter. She said

I do? He smiled at her. You always smell like the forest.

That's because I'm in the forest all the time, She laughed.

True. He grinned at her and gave her a squeeze.
There was a rapping at the door. Vladik turned his head at the noise.

Rauni uncoiled herself and padded across the room, opening the door.

Vladik rose to his feet and joined her to see who it was.
It was a well dressed seelie, who bowed politely. "I applogize for interrupting your evening. The king wishes to speak with the two of you."

Rauni looked up and him curiously and shrugged. When he was ready, she followed him out. They weren't in the throne room, rather one of the informal sitting rooms. Rhyann looked up as they entered and smiled.

Vladik gave them a respectful bow upon entering the room and took a seat beside Rauni.
"I am pleased you could join us," the king smiled brightly at them both. "Rhyann and I have something to ask of you both."

Rauni sat down on the floor by Vladik, stretching. Rhyann poured them both a drink, handing their cups to them.

“Thank you.” Vladik took the offered cup and took a sip. Spiced wine, so perfect for the season.
“You may be wondering why Rhyann and I have summoned you,” Talrenius began with a smile, glancing to Rhyann.
“The queen and I wish a favor of you both.” He looked from one to the other. “We think it is best to have eyes outside of the kingdom. The abominations we fought and destroyed may not be unique to the land of Tir Alainn. I trust both of you, and I know you are capable if you accept this task.”
Tal glanced at Rhyann again. “My queen has suggested a proposition. You and Rauni travel to the neighboring kingdoms, acting as our eyes and ears, to assess the threat to the continent. We have reason to believe that the elder god beneath the sea has brother and sister gods just as restless as It was.”

Koun, who was curled up between Rhyann and Tal, lifted his head at that last part, then put it back down again. Rhyann scratched his ears. "At the very least we should have some idea of how far the dread elder's influence has spread."
Rauni made a questioning gesture and Rhyann nodded. "I think perhaps they might even have influenced the Inquisitors."

Vladik glanced to Rauni. He had to admit he had grown restless here, even as happy to be with the People as he was. This proposal had a sense of danger and adventure to it, and he was quite willing to take on the task.
"I would be honored."

She gave him a brilliant smile, nodding happily.
Koun huffed suddenly and the soft chime of magic filled the air as the little faerie dragon that liked to follow Rauni around suddenly appeared, landing on Rauni's shoulder.
"Iri decided she's going to come along too," Rhyann said dryly.

Vladik chuckled.
"Excellent," Talrenius reached into his pocket and removed a small velvet bag. Inside was a small translucent globe with a golden hue. He leaned foward and placed it in Vladik's hand.
"This orb will allow you to speak with the queen and I no matter where you are. Simply pass your thumb over the rune and you may communicate with us. If you should need anything, let us know. If you wish to report news, you may do so."
"Of course." Vladik nodded. "Thank you."
