"If that's true wouldn't you rather it be in our hands than that of a rogue corporation's like EDC? I know you've had experience with those kind of people before doctor.. what do you think they'd do with a weapon like that if such a thing existed?"

"Not really, no. I can't imagine EarthGov's morals are any better than EDC's nor do you care about the people who would need to be sacrificed for such a thing to come about anymore than they do."

Aya’s eyes narrowed a little as she looked at Hayward. Something about him was familiar but she just couldn’t place it at the moment. As she approached she could sense him studying her. A good first impression was crucial to what she was hoping to ask of him. She clasped her hands together demurely. “Captain, I’m pleased that you agreed to see me.”

His gaze slid over her with a bit more open appraisal without a hint of shame. "The whole ship is abuzz about you, Miss....I don't believe I caught your name?" He extended a hand to shake hers.

She blushed a little under his less than innocent gaze. No one had made much of a fuss about her before. She reached out and took his hand in hers, shaking it politely. “My name’s Aya. Pleased to meet you Captain Hayward.”

"So what can I do for you, Aya?" He leaned back in his chair. There was nowhere on the bridge he could offer her to sit.

She was too restless to sit anyway. She laced her fingers together so she wouldn’t fidget. “Well Sir, I was hoping that you might consider a rescue effort for the survivors of the Godspeed. There are loved ones down there that I’m worried about. Particularly one man, Commander Liam Jacobs. He saved my life. He means the world to me.”

"Liam Jacobs?" He looked interested suddenly. "That name is familiar..."

He laughed a bit, "I see cynicism is not foreign to you Dr. Metria." He headed for the door, "I'll just let you think about what might happen to you, and if those people you want to save are worth seeing again. You know how to reach me."

Suddenly it all came together. Aya looked at him more clearly. Sure he was a bit more trim then but it was in the past after all. “I think I remember you. Do you remember the Saturn rebellion all those years ago? You were Liam’s commanding officer at the time.”

Celeste watched him go with an oddly thoughtful look. She was wondering at herself. By any account, she should have been terrified, she was at their mercy, after all...
On the heels of that thought she felt a jolt go through her. If she wanted to infect someone and take the ship over completely, she realized with an instinctive certainty, there was little they could do to stop her.
It was a terrifying thought, even more so because there was a thrill of excitement at the thought. She shook it off. She wouldn't do it. She didn't want to be her mother.
Her mother...
Celeste leaned back, letting her thoughts drift to the way her mother and the colonists plant kraken thing had fled from the temple. She'd been playing a theory about the events around the Godspeed that she was becoming more certain of.
She wished...very much...that she could go back and explore the temple. She shouldn't have left it, if she hadn't been so worried about Liam and Aya she wouldn't have.
Her mother and all the colonists had been part of a relatively controlled experiment, part of the plants yet fearing everything wild in the forests.

He snapped his fingers and nodded. "Ah, yes! I remember him now. Pilot. Very talented."

Aya grinned, the smile lighting to her eyes. “You think so too? I’m sure he’d be happy to hear that from you personally, Captain. Now, about that rescue?” Her insides clenched nervously. It was now or never.

He frowned and sat back in his chair. "If you served with Liam, you know about taking orders, Aya." Luckily for her, he'd assumed she had served with Liam. "I cannot authorize a search without EarthGov's permission, especially such a risky one. After what we found out about your companion..." A very odd look flickered across his face for just a second and it was gone. "...we can't risk the lives of more people. I'm sorry." Seeing her face fall, he stroked his mustache thoughtfully. "However, I can step up probes to the planet so we can learn more about it. The stories you and the lady in quarantine have been rather...outlandish. I'm afraid we need more verification. I can also send a couple robotic enforcers down, at least they have weapons to help out survivors."

Her heart sunk. She couldn’t help but blink back the tears in her eyes. Her hopes dashed. But what… was he talking about Celeste? She pushed that aside for the moment. “I appreciate anything you can do, Captain. But… I do have one more request. Even if you can’t risk personnel going down to the planet, may I accompany the robotic enforcers?” She smiled sadly, putting a hand to her chest. “I have to know…”
