A storm was approaching. Black, angry clouds billowed and churned against the backdrop of stars, blocking out the cheerful light and casting the moon in a dark shadow. Thunder began to rumble and great streaks of lightning tore across the sky, making a thunderous noise as they set the sky ablaze with terrible flashing of eerie light. No rain fell, though the clouds churned violently into great billowing towers. It was sudden. Within minutes, an enormous lightning bolt streaked downward and hit the highest point of the steeple.

Strange weather and sudden twists and turns to reality weren't at all uncommon in the city but such a thing happening at the great church was a rarity. It brought many out of the shadows to look up curiously, including Karine, all of them still, their heads tipped up to look at the top of the church.

The holy symbol adorning the great steeple was charred from the lightning impact, the fine details now smeared from the heat of electricity. It was natural that lightning would go for the highest point of the city, but it almost seemed as if had been a deliberate offense by some unseen force.
In the midst of the violent storm, a funnel cloud began to swirl, leaving a perfect circle inside the eye. But it didn't seem to want to descend, simply forming an anomaly within the swirling black cloud.
Orpheus had stopped walking, his eyes cast up in the sky warily. It seemed as if the earth was holding it's breath.

Karine was standing not far from Orpheus, her hand on the hilt of her sword. She was standing next to a small woman with dusky gray skin he'd probably be able to recognize as a half demon.
On the roof of the church, Archon Marissa stood on the roof of one of the spires, seething, glaring up into the center of the funnel cloud with golden eyes that shone with holy energy as if in defiance of that dark swirl.

As a enormous bolt of lightning streaked across the sky again, lighting the city of New Babylon and casting eerie shadows that crept along the ground before its light was extinguished. Something celestial much like a falling star, or meteor plunged down towards the earth from the atmosphere above and suddenly the funnel cloud closed up, quite resolutely. It hit the ground about a mile from the center of the city, and light flared at the impact in a shockwave. The ground, unseen from afar by the residents, had formed into a large crater surrounding what had landed.

The impact was enough it threw anyone who wasn't flying or hovering back a few paces. Karine cursed, shifting her balance. The demon girl shook her head, glaring. "What the hell is that?"
"That..." Karine said, her voice echoing oddly. "Is a whole bunch of trouble..."
Marissa snarled and shot into the air, sweeping through the skies above New Babylon, heading for the impact site.
"Lots of trouble," Karine murmured.

At first it may look like a large bird, black wings curling protectively around the body. But slowly a figure stood, wobbling, to his feet. Black feathers lay scattered around him. In his hand he gripped a flaming sword, which he had refused to relinquish before his fall to earth. He staggered a few steps, but balanced himself with the tip of his sword like a small staff. When he heard the sound of wings coming in the sky towards the impact site, his wings flared defensively. He turned towards the sound, raising the flaming seraph sword in his hands. He had been cast out from Heaven from the Father he adored. He thought it was one of his former brotherhood, come to finish off his existence which the Father could not bring himself to do.

It wasn't one of his brotherhood, but the shining figure that landed on a large stone not far from him had the same intentions. Her lips were curled into a sneer of disgust. She knew what he was. She stepped off the stone and pointed at him. "Fallen One, you are not welcome here."

"Who are you to say this?" the fallen angel bristled in indignation.

"I am Marissa, Archon and protector of this twilight city. And I am still in our Father's favor," she said it with a cruel smile.

His eyes flashed, and he spoke in a low growl. "What happened is a mistake. I will win our Father's favor once again."
He raised a finger at her. "If you dare to stand between me and my victory, I will not hesitate to disable you. Perhaps even kill you."
Those last few words were those of uncertainty. He did not know what actions may incur the wrath of the Father. But he didn't intend to let this self-righteous angel get in his way.

"Whatever victory you seek, you will not get it here," she insisted. "This place is taken by the ungodly enough as it is, we don't need you adding to it."
The little drama being played out had an audience. Priestesses and entities alike gathered in and around the buildings, both standing and ruined, that surrounded his crater, watching. Some with amusement, some with concern, some with greed. A fallen angel was a rare prize, if one of the entities could get a hold of him, either willingly or unwillingly, he'd be a powerful force. Karine was also watching but Bates had no intention of attempting to get a hold of the fallen angel. That wasn't his style.
Marissa was aware of them, gathering like jackals and vultures around the area. Normally she'd take the opportunity to attack but at the moment she had this bigger fish to fry.

The feathers around him trembled with rage. He seethed through his teeth. "Do you think I would side with the ungodly?! They're filth, wretched filth. They must be exterminated in his name. Don't think that because I have fallen that I have let go of godly ways, Archon."

"How dare you?!" She thundered, her wings slamming outward. "Look up, Fallen, see where you were thrown from. You aren't WORTHY of doing anything in His name!"

Azazell hissed a long breath through his teeth, his wings flaring out in a flurry of feathers. He crouched down low and swept his wings, launching himself into the air, the seraph sword flaring in response. "There will be no one between me and my second ascension!” he bellowed. “Not even you, favored by God.”
