She held onto him for another moment, and then sighed. "I suppose we'll have to debrief the councilors."

Tal gave her one last kiss and put her hand in his. "Yes, I suppose we do." He was in no hurry to reconvene the councilmen, and he needed to take an easy pace as it was.

Tal sat down carefully at the head of the council table, Rhyann taking her place at the other. The councilmen leaned in eagerly as Tal nodded to Rhyann to make her report.

As was her usual way, Rhyann gave her report in a concise manner. "We need to keep a close eye on the woods for the remaining abominations, by all accounts they're in full retreat for the sea, probably because without It they cannot support running those dread ships without their deity."

The council nodded and murmered together. The lead councilman looked to the queen and smiled generously. "You'll have our full support until this all blows over."
Talrenius nodded. "Cirith's children have reported through the fairie dragon that they are willing to locate any which remains of the enemy and pick them off individually. We will supplement their efforts with our own men. Within a few weeks, I am sure any remaining threat will be extinguished and all of this will be over."
Tal reached out a hand and placed it on Rhyann's own, smiling at her. "You'll be happy to know that Cirith has returned to her home to recover."

She squeezed his hand and turned to look at Thanat, who was standing in the shadows to the side of the chamber. By his own choice, Rhyann had often invited him to join them at the table, but he preferred the shadows. "What about Sareth?"
"He and the others who allowed themselves to be taken by It haven't recovered, my lady. The loss of the beast's influence seems to have driven them quite mad, we don't know if they'll come back."

"And so they should not," a younger grumbled.
The lead council looked at the young councilmen with an intent look in his eyes, his mouth pressed into a thin line. "Although I agree, in part, they are still our People."
"Too dangerous," another nodded solemnly. "They should be contained."
"We'd have to find them first," another said reluctantly. "A task no one would find agreeable."
"Banish them," another said simply with a shrug, appearing to agree with the young councilman. "They should not be allowed to rejoin the People. It's more trouble than it's worth."
"But we should be wary." An elder gestured. "Even if they are mad, they cannot all be harmless. Perhaps a ward should be placed upon them. Some spell, perhaps, to deter them from our borders. Perhaps similar to the one cast around Tir Alainn to confuse outsiders from breaching into the forest."
"They'd go in circles," one chuckled. "Brilliant."

"Not until we see if they recover enough we can get some answers," Rhyann said firmly. "The more we know about the creature It was part of, the better off we'll be."

"I agree with the queen," Tal nodded. "They are part of us. We have no way of knowing just what It was without simple interrogation."
The young councilman gave a small sound of disgust. More than one councilman gave him a hard stare. He shrunk back in his seat.

Thanat was doing more than bristling, actually gliding a few feet out of the shadows, looking like he was giving serious thought to whacking the upstart a good one for such disrespect, only retreating when Rhyann shook her head. She looked back to the council members. "The humans and the fey out in the fields have told me there wasn't much damage to our livestock or crops. The shapeshifters have taken up residence in that area. Padrick has told me they intend to act as a guard for the border and the farmlands."

At Thanat's movement, the young one started to shake in fear. The point drove home.
Rhyann's words put many minds to rest.
"Very good," the lead councilman smiled warmly to the queen.
Talrenius looked around for any further questions. When he noted that the council looked satisfied with that answer, he called the meeting adjourned.

Thanat bowed to them and moved toward the stairs, heading down tho his own quarters. Rhyann sighed quietly, glad that was all over

Talrenius took Rhyann's hand and left the council chamber after the room had cleared. He let out a sigh of satisfaction. Things seemed to be back to normal in Tir Alainn with only a few exceptions. He trusted Padrick and his people, accepted by many as part of the People, to help protect the peace. With the help of Cirith's children, there was nothing to fear.
