Vladik lowered his eyes. That is where Vyris may have found her, razing her beloved home, ripping her from all that she knew and loved. He pulled his horse up to a stop, moved it so that his leg pressed against hers and gave her a kiss. I'm sorry, my love.

She kissed him back. You helped save me from him.

That I did. It's the best decision I ever made. He smiled warmly. You turned my life around, Rauni, you really did.

She smiled and stroked his cheek with the back of her fingers gently, letting the past slide out of her thoughts. They were here, now, and she never wanted to be anywhere else.

Vladik kissed her hand and let her hand take the reins of her own horse. Let's get moving. He clucked to his horse and gave it a nudge, and the beast started foward eagerly.

She didn't mind riding since this area was relatively safe. She looked around as they moved, her head cocked, listening to the language of the forest

Vladik stopped the ride about midday when they reached a good sized human settlement and took their horses into the small stable beside a tavern inn. It was a good opportunity for a drink and a hot meal.

Rauni attracted either suspicious or admiring glances, making her stick close to Vladik's side.

Vladik reached out and squeezed her hand with a smile and took a seat with her at the bar. He ordered his and her favorite drinks when the barkeep approached them with a cheerful smile, and ordered two plates of the day's fare. He pressed a gold coin down on the bar and pushed it towards the barkeep, who thanked them brightly and poured their drinks.

It was a foamy thing, much to Rauni's delight. She sniffed the foam and sneezed

Vladik cuckled and ran a hand down her hair and picked his own up, taking a sip. It was cool and nice down his throat. Last time he had this particular drink was the night of the feast celebrating Rhyann's return to Tir Alainn. He smiled a bit as he set it down. That was quite the night. He hadn't been so drunk. He chuckled a little to himself.

She pawed foam off her nose and turned her attention to the food. She caught the bartender watching her with bemusement and glanced away, fidgeting, a bit embarrassed

Vladik looked up to the bartender with a small smile, and the man turned away and started to polish a glass with a clean rag and moving away, taking the hint to give them their privacy. The meat they were enjoying was different fare than fey food, it had less of the wild in it. Most likely it came from a domesticated animal, and the vegetables were starchy and rough. But it tasted good all the same.

Rauni wasn't complaining, she'd been treated pretty much as an animal up until recently after all. She ate with quick, precise bites

It was remarkable just how much Rauni had changed in the last few months. Mistreated for so long, she had been raw and bitter and untrusting. So much like he, perhaps, until Rauni came into his own life. Vladik swallowed a bite of food and took a sip of his drink, turning his head to watch Rauni eat. Even then, she was more civilized than she had been before. But they had grown together in a nurturing environment within Tir Alainn. He saw himself as something more, now. Someone better. And no one could take that away from him.
