"That's out of my hands, Agent Blackwood is technically in charge of the two of you." The captain lifted his hands.

 Her eyes fell. “I see.”

"I'm sorry I can't offer you more." He patted her shoulder, his hand lingering a bit longer than was proper

She stepped back a little. “Thank you for everything. Perhaps I may visit again to check on any progress?” She looked at him hopefully.

"Feel free." He gave her a warm smile.

She gave him a soft smile. “Thank you, I’ll let you get back to work. I appreciate your time. Goodbye.” Aya backed away and turned, leaving the bridge. Her mind was already working. Somehow she’d find out more about those robotic enforcers. Surely there would be some type of transport ship. If she could smuggle herself into that transport then she could see Liam again. Her heart wrenched. That is, if he was still alive. But she had to know.

The captain watched her go and turned away, the smile falling away from his face. He fired up his comm when he glanced at one of his screens and noted Blackwood had come away from Quarantine. "So, Agent Blackwood, how did it go?"

"No remarkable progress sir, but I gave her something to think about. She's rather apprehensive about helping EarthGov, but I think with the right persuasion we might be able to make progress. She said something to me that implies what she carries is some sort of biological weapon, or that something on that planet is."

"Apprehensive is probably too kind a word, she's bullheadedly rebellious, she always has been." Blackwood was one of the few people privy to the commander's connection with their surprising new visitor. "The woman, Aya, came to me asking about a rescue mission down to the planet, she might be heading your way."

Aya exited the bridge, looking around. She started down the hall to look at a nearby ship directory, moving her finger over the map to find engineering. She had been something of a mechanic herself, so getting the mechanics to brag about the Inverness should be a snap. Engineering was the heart of the ship after all. Aya started heading down that way. She couldn’t just sit by and wait.

"Right.. the doctor asked for the same thing. Do you have any particular plans, sir? If any of this turns out to be true we'll have to blockade this sector."

"Short of sending probes and robots, not particularly. I'm not against blockading the sector just in case, either. Whether or not they're telling the truth, there is something odd about that planet."

Once she reached engineering, she put on her charms. She walked inside and pressed a hip against the door, folding her arms across her chest. “Pretty impressive ship you have around here boys.” That got their attention, the crew turning their heads to look at the woman. One of the bolder of the bunch threw aside a grease rag and wiped his hands on his coveralls. “Why thank you, Miss. What brings you to our neck of the woods?” “I just wanted to see the engines. I’d like to see the power behind the Inverness. I was once a mechanic myself… One of you boys want to show me around?” “I’d love to. What is it that you used to work on?” The first man said, removing his hat. Aya sauntered in at her best attempt to be alluring. “I worked on a military base, got my hands dirty in all sorts of things. Mainly tanks, mechas, that sort of thing. I have a soft spot for anything with big guns.” The mechanic grinned at her. “Military stuff, huh? The Inverness has some of the best.” “Oh?” She raised a brow, looking coy. “Do tell.” The two of them walked down the grid while the other boys got to work, the young man spouting the secrets of the more aggressive part of the Inverness. Aya got to hear tidbits about the robotic enforcers she was so interested about. Put on a little womanish charm and they were all over you.

Celeste sat with her back against the wall, her eyes closed. She wouldn't survive long all the way across the galaxy from Zephyrus. The bone deep ache throughout her body told her that clearly, the feeling of being torn and broken. The only satisfaction she took from it was if that happened, she was fairly sure the plant in her would die too, unable to survive outside her body. It was part of her now. She didn't intend to give up without a fight though. The more and more she thought about it, the more and more certain she had to get to the temple, to the heart of the planet. That was what was calling to her, clinging to her even across so much space. Because she was different from her mother, she was sure of that now. Her mother's powers were filtered through whatever the scientists on the colony had done to control the plants. She was enmeshed in the power of the planet without actually being part of it. It was that, she was certain, that really caused the problems. It hadn't been one power reaching out to the people of the Godspeed, it had been two: her mother's, or whatever it was that had a hold of her, and the planet's.

After walking a circuit around engineering, she had learned everything she wanted to know about the Inverness weapon systems. The engineer asked her if he could see her again sometime and she had replied that she didn’t mind. He took it as a good sign and grinned at her from ear to ear. “Maybe you can show me what you do around here?” She motioned to the engine room. “Tell me how it works? I’d love to know.” Aya gave him a winning smile. “Sure thing,” he adjusted the hat on his head. “Though I wouldn’t want you to get your clothes dirty. How about some coveralls? We have extra in the locker room.” He jerked a thumb towards it. “That’s very thoughtful of you,” she said slyly giving him a wink. He led her into the locker room and opened a large locker. Coveralls of all sizes were lined up on hangers. He pulled one down that should be her size and pulled a cap off of the top shelf. “I’ll just step outside while you put this on.” “Perfect,” she beamed at him and started to slip on the coveralls as soon as he was out of sight, putting the cap on her head and tugging a little on the brim. It certainly was perfect. If she could walk out with these there may be a chance she could slip in to the flight deck as they loaded up the sentries, posing as an engineer. She walked out of the locker room and spun around a little. “What do you think?” The boys stood up from their task and whistled. Aya blushed demurely. “I’m not used to so much attention,” she laughed lightly. She rolled up her sleeves and looked at the young man expectantly. Over the next hour or so she was shown the ropes. Her coveralls were streaked with grease as well as her hands up to her elbows, but she couldn’t be happier. She added her own comments as the pair of them worked together on the engines.
